Broken hearts are vulnerable…they must be guarded carefully. When your heart has been broken it can become softened and open to the work of God, or it can become hardened and bitter not only towards God, but towards other people and life in general.
In Philippians 4:6-7 Paul tells us how to guard our hearts from becoming hardened."Don’t worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."
In the midst of your heartache, pray continually. Share with God your needs and then try your best to leave your worries and cares with Him. The Lord promises to meet your needs. God never changes...He never goes back on His word...His promises are true for yesterday, today and forever... so even if you don't see signs that He is working to meet your needs, you can have peace and be at rest, because His Word says He is. God's plan for you is always the best plan and we can find comfort knowing we are in good hands... and we can have peace because we know His timing is perfect. It's also important to thank and praise the Lord in advance for what He will do...God inhabits the praises of His people. Praise and worship brings us into God's presence and there is peace in His presence.
When we stop and remember all that God has done for us in the past....all the troubled times that He has seen us through ....all the times He answered our prayers... we are filled with gratitude. Remembering His track record of seeing us through is 100%, helps us to trust Him in the moment for things beyond what we can see.
Gratitude softens and prepares the soil of our hearts and allows His peace to grow in the midst of turmoil and pain. To have peace in the storms of life can only come from our Heavenly Father. It is supernatural…it defies circumstances and is something the world can't give or take away. Having peace and trust is the complete confidence that even though you don’t see a solution or resolution to your pain and trials, God does. He is in control of your life and He knows your every need. To have peace in the midst of turmoil, is truly one of the most amazing gifts we can ever receive. Many of us would never find this supernatural level of peace and comfort if it were not for these dark places of desperation that make us draw near to Him.
Please don’t let your heart become hardened by bitterness and resentment towards God. Ephesians 4:18 says that “They are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds and hardened their hearts against him.” (Ephesians 4:18). Accept His peace and grace by allowing your heart to be soft, protected and guarded in the hands of your loving Heavenly Father.
